sources telling nbc news that president obama is prepared to offer congressional leaders a smaller deal to avert the so-called fiscal cliff behind closed doors at the white house. i want to bring in white house correspondent kristen welker. >> reporter: i'm told pelosi and boehner left to come to the white house. in terms of the smaller deal, we have heard it would include a provision to extend the bush 'ra tax cuts for those making $250,000 or less and let them expire for those more than $250,000 and something that president obama has been calling for for a long time. it would also extend unemployment insurance benefits and stave off some of those deep spending cut that is are set to go in to effect and essentially mirrors what president obama outlined when he addressed the nation before leaving for the what ryan holiday. white house officials being very tight lipped of what specifically the president is going to do and will not confirm to put this smaller deal on the table so i think we're going to have to wait until the meeting wraps up for the specifics but speaking to republican ai
